Poetry Published by Katherine 9J
Congratulations to Katherine of 9J who has had her poetry published by an organisation called Young Writers in an anthology written by students aged 11-18 years. In order to be published in the anthology, called 'Through Their Eyes', students had to write a poem from someone or something else's point of view. During lockdown, Year 9 learned about the experience of soldiers fighting in the trenches during World War I and students were challenged to put the thoughts and feelings of soldiers into verse. Katherine explains, 'My Mum thought it was a really good poem and said that I ought to find a competition to enter it into. My friend's brother likes to write too and knew of the Young Writers competition, so I entered. I was very surprised to hear that my poem was chosen as I have never had anything published before! I do lots of writing but now I know I'm a good writer."
We are very proud of Katherine's success and delighted with the confidence this has given her; we are also very pleased to hear that she will be continuing to write as a School Journalist this year. Young Writers holds competitions throughout the school year and entry is currently open for students to write a 100 word story on the theme 'Trapped'. Perhaps we'll have another published author at Croxley Danes before too long?
