Silver DofE Expedition
Our silver Duke of Edinburgh students completed their expedition last weekend. We left school bright and early at 7am on Thursday to arrive in the Cotswolds and start walking. Although most groups struggled with the map reading at first, they soon got into the hang of it. Our first night camping was by a large lake with some very noisy geese which proved to be very helpful in getting the group to rise by 5.30am to start walking before the 26 degree midday heat hit. With the combination of the hot weather and the 20km walk, the second day proved the hardest. Teachers met groups as regularly as possible to top up the water and sun screen but we still had a few rosie cheeks! With temperatures set to reach 28 degrees on Saturday, we shortened each groups' route to try to ensure they had finished walking by midday. Unfortunately this meant another 5:30am wake up with all groups off site and walking by 7am.
A huge congratulations to all the students who completed the silver expedition in such dramatic and challenging temperatures. Finally I would like to say happy birthday to Zoe C who celebrated her second Duke of Edinburgh birthday, having celebrated on the bronze expedition last year as well.
