U13 Girls Football Team on Winning Streak

The Croxley Danes U13 Girls Football team have enjoyed a triumphant fortnight with two notable wins. On Tuesday 28th November the girls put on an incredible performance in the EFL Girls’ Cup. After competing against a host of local schools, they won this round of the competition with a 1-0 victory against Beaumont. The team did not concede a single goal in this stage of the tournament,  taking them one step further towards playing at Wembley Stadium!

Later that week the team played in the English Schools Football Competition, beating last year’s National New Team semi-finalists to secure a place as one of the last 32 teams in the competition. A last minute goal from Bella sealed the 3-2 win and topped off a superb team performance.

Olivia H in Year 7 has written this report following the game:

Croxley Danes U13 played an end-to-end National Cup match against Wanstead School. Five minutes in, Lily had a one-on-one with the keeper with the keeper managing to get her hands to it. Oyda came out to collect the ball, finding Lily after sending the ball up the pitch, who then played it out wide to Millie.W who crossed it into the box. After a scramble in the box the ball found Lily who rolled it into the corner, making it look easy (1-0). The other team had plenty of possession but the Croxley team defence was strong.

The opposition won the ball and went long to find their winger who cut in and scored (1-1). It was tense as Croxley hit the bar, post, and even the keeper but with no luck. After about 20 minutes Bella scored from outside the box and it was post and in to make it 2-1 at half time.

Halfway through the second half, the opposition just managed to slide one past Oyda (2-2). Oyda made two amazing saves, the first being when she came out and slid at the players feet to clear it away, and the second was a dive she caught to keep us in the game. It was 2-2 at the end of normal time, now for the added time.

We didn't manage to get anything out of that first half of added time, however the second half was a different story. So many chances came from Bella and Lily who hit the post a couple of times to get close to goal but none of them went in. Corners came and Bella got a head to it twice but no luck, Eve hit the crossbar from a corner as well. Bella then won the ball and made an unbelievable run, leaving her with a one-on-one with the keeper before, of course, sliding it home to make it 3-2. The game ended 3-2 to Croxley but it was very close and challenging for the girls. Now Croxley are in the last 32 schools left in the National Cup. COME ON CROXLEY!
