Care Home Visit for Feeling Good Week

A range of daily activities were organised for students for last week’s Feeling Good Week 2024. Activities ranged from puzzle clubs, mindful colouring, dancing sessions, origami and even a ‘wellbeing wonderland’ led by Charlotte Barton from Trinity Project where a beach environment was created to bring a sense of calm to the students whilst using ocean sounds, smell and sand.

Tuesday’s Feeling Good Week activity was particularly special with Miss Bhalla and Mrs Richards taking student leaders from our Wellbeing and Equalities Teams to take part in some intergenerational gardening and planting with residents at Barchester Chorleywood Beaumont Care Home. Students and residents made lovely connections whilst decorating plant pots and planting various herbs and flowers. Conversations flowed regarding what makes us smile and they even enjoyed a story together.

Our students were so gentle, polite, kind and helpful in the way they interacted with the residents and Mrs Richards and Miss Bhalla were very proud of their exemplary behaviour. Liz, one of the residents, said ‘The children were lovely!’ and Jaime Gilbank, Activities coordinator for Chorleywood Beaumont Care Home, said ‘I’m so pleased it went well. When the residents realised young people were coming to the care home, they all wanted to join the gardening session!’

Mrs Richards reported how ‘The story we read together, ‘The Truth about Old People’ ended with the words, ‘Old people are AMAZING!’ and we definitely saw this on our trip. We are looking forward to meeting the residents again at Croxley Danes, when we invite them to join us for a daytime performance of our school musical, The Addams Family, in March.’

Ben Ansell, who works as an educational Mental Health Practitioner and who supports our wellbeing work at Croxley Danes said of the week: ‘The creativity and planning that staff and students have put into the events for Feeling Good week this year is a credit to Croxley Danes school. I hope that what you have achieved this week will inspire other local schools to try new ways of exploring the five ways of wellbeing.’ Mrs Cox, Assistant Headteacher remarked that "It was wonderful to see the range of different activities going on to promote Feeling Good Week. I'm particularly proud of the new links that have been formed with the wider community and the contribution our students have made to the wellbeing of others."
