An Inspirational Talk by David Dein MBE

On Tuesday 4th June, we were privileged to welcome former vice-chairman of Arsenal Football Club David Dein MBE to Croxley Danes as part of the Speakers for Schools initiative, to deliver an inspiring and engaging talk to our Year 12 students and our successful girls’ football team about the route to success and how to stand out from the crowd.

David has had an incredible career, taking Arsenal from strength to strength during his 24 years with the club and ,most notably, being the driving force behind the creation of the FA Premier League in 1992, with his ideas reshaping the structure and finances of English football into what it is today. He has also been at the forefront of many important changes in football including the introduction of Goal Line Technology and VAR and was an early proponent of Women’s football. He spoke passionately about how always striving to be the best version of yourself, working hard and having vision and courage are the keys to success and to always remember the motto of the turtle - ‘you don’t get anywhere without sticking your neck out’.

David’s talk was an inspiration to students whether they were into football or not, giving them some powerful and motivational takeaways. Following the session, students left some wonderful feedback regarding what they gained from David’s wisdom and advice, including having pride in what you do and always trying to do the best you can, year after year.

Thank you so much to David and to the Speakers for Schools charity for providing our students with this wonderful opportunity.
