Franklin Scholars Festival of Ideas
Before we broke for the Easter holiday, students from Croxley Danes were involved in a day of events aimed at developing skills of problem-solving through community-focused activities. This was run by Franklin Scholars, an organisation which trains up students in schools to deliver mentoring programmes to younger students. In an email from the organisers, the following praise for our students was recorded: "The students from Croxley Danes School were excellent ambassadors for your school, demonstrating impressive creativity, collaboration and application."
As the Franklin Scholars website explains, the event involved 5 schools from Hertfordshire and was held at St Clement Danes.
"Students tackled challenges ranging from encouraging more girls into STEM subjects and careers, to elderly isolation. After a public speaking workshop, participants then pitched their ideas to a Dragon's Den-style panel, who awarded development cash prizes to those that had the most potential.
The overall winners were students from Rickmansworth School with their elegant plan for "Memory Mornings" - coffee mornings hosted at the school for the local elderly population to share memories and interact with the younger generation and each other."
Many thanks to Franklin Scholars for giving our students this opportunity to work collaboratively and develop their skills.
