Croxley Danes Staff Help NHS With PPE
Whilst schools have been closed to all but the children of key workers, our own Dr Bower, Technology Faculty Coordinator, has been doing her bit to help support the NHS with the production of much needed PPE equipment. To date she has helped to manufacture almost 2400 face shields for use by health workers. Dr Bower said "I have been travelling to Chiltern Academy in Luton to work with 7 other teachers. We designed the mask using our 2D design drawing skills - they're the same skills that all our Croxley Danes students have learned this year - and then we make the masks out of clear acetate and polypropylene. We used a laser cutter, a CNC router, stanley knife and scissors."
Dr Bower has delivered some of the batch to Rennie Grove nurses, the Watford Peace Hospice, a local doctors' surgery, St Francis Hospice, the Croxley Care Home and two local pharmacies. "I saw in the news that the NHS were desperate for equipment so I contacted someone I had worked with at an innovation competition final, and joined the Luton team. I feel so proud to be doing what I can to help." We are proud of Dr. Bower's efforts too!
