Will Atiomo Inspires African Caribbean Society and Drama Students

We were delighted to welcome the wonderful writer and actor Will Atiomo to Croxley Danes School on Thursday 3 April 2025. Speaking to members of our African Caribbean Society and Drama students over lunchtime, Will offered a unique and fascinating insight into his life and work across theatre, television, film and the wider arts industry.

Will shared how his inspiring Drama teacher cast him as Othello in a school production at the age of 17, an experience that proved pivotal in his career. Determined to pursue acting, he wrote to agents inviting them to watch his performance — a bold step that paid off, as the agent who attended remains his representative to this day.

Students were captivated by Will’s stories of his time at the National Youth Theatre, where he undertook an exciting and rigorous year-long training while studying for his undergraduate degree at Birmingham University. He described this experience as both challenging and transformative, providing him with invaluable skills and opportunities.

Will also spoke about his passion for storytelling and writing for performance, particularly highlighting his commitment to uncovering and sharing historical narratives that are often overlooked in mainstream education. His forthcoming project focuses on the remarkable life of John Edmonson, a formerly enslaved Guyanese man who became a taxidermist in Scotland and later taught Charles Darwin ahead of Darwin’s famous voyage aboard HMS Beagle.

Our students asked Will thoughtful and insightful questions, and we all came away inspired by his poise, resilience and dedication to his craft.

We are extremely grateful to Will for taking the time to speak with us — it was a privilege to host him at Croxley Danes School.
