Reading Plus

Reading Plus is an online reading intervention programme designed to develop fluency, comprehension, and stamina. At Croxley Danes, it is offered as a home-use resource for students who need to improve their reading levels. The programme adapts to each learner’s ability and reading speed, providing a structured pathway to help them become more confident and efficient readers.

At the start, students complete an adaptive baseline assessment, which determines their current reading level and identifies areas for improvement. From there, Reading Plus generates a personalised programme, offering engaging texts that match their reading ability while gently increasing complexity over time. The platform focuses on silent reading fluency, encouraging students to process text more efficiently so they can focus on comprehension rather than decoding individual words.

Each reading activity includes comprehension questions designed to assess students’ ability to recall, infer, and analyse information. The programme also includes vocabulary-building exercises, helping students understand new words in context. If a student struggles with a particular reading skill, Reading Plus generates additional practice activities tailored to their needs. These may include re-reading tasks, skill-focused comprehension drills, and printable worksheets, all designed to reinforce key learning points. Teachers can also access a bank of intervention resources to support students in their development.

Regular use of Reading Plus helps students develop essential reading skills that support their learning across all subjects, making it a valuable tool for improving literacy outside of the classroom.
