International Men's Day at Croxley Danes
We were delighted to mark International Men’s Day for the first time at Croxley Danes today, Tuesday 19th November. A day that challenges us to think about the contribution men make to their communities, society, family, marriage and childcare, whilst also thinking about the unique challenges men may face, including abuse, homelessness, suicide and violence.
International Men’s Day is not intended to compete against International Women's Day, which takes place in March, instead it is founded for the purpose of highlighting men’s experiences.
All students attended an assembly today that covered some bold, challenging and important issues, including identity, mental health, sexuality and insecurity, neurodiversity and body image. Our equalities team spoke about their positive male role models, including neurodiverse actor Tom Holland and gay Olympic diver Tom Daley.
Marking International Men’s Day is part of our ongoing work on Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging here at Croxley Danes that also included a talk for our Year 10s in October on how we can tackle violence and misogyny by educator Matt Pinkett, and a parent and staff session on Challenging Gender Based Violence earlier this month. There’s no doubt that sometimes life can be difficult for young men. The pressures facing all young people are more profound than ever before and we are proud to have been able to shine a spotlight on this for our students today.
If you are a Croxley Danes parent or carer and would like to find out more about our Equalities work please complete the form within the equalities update email sent on Monday 18th November.
In honour of International Men’s Day, we are proud to launch this short video below that staff and students at Croxley Danes put together, sharing their ideas about the day and what it means to them.
