FAQs - Post Allocation 2025

Who is responsible for Admissions at the School?

The Governors are responsible for all school admissions.  There is a Governor's Admissions Committee of which the Headteacher is a member.

Can I speak directly with the Headteacher, or arrange a meeting to discuss my application?

Prior to submission of applications, the Headteacher holds an Open Evening and Open Mornings when he is available to speak to individual families about the admissions process.  He is unavailable to speak to parents once applications have been submitted and allocations made in order to preserve the integrity and fairness of the application process.

What is the Admission Number at Secondary Transfer 2025?

The School’s Published Admission Number (PAN) is 180.

Is the school full?

Yes, all places have been allocated.

What is the breakdown of places allocated under each criterion at Secondary Transfer 2025?

On 1st March 2025 places were allocated in the following way:

Children with an Educational Health Care Plan  8
Criterion 1 - Looked After Children 0
Criterion 2 - Children of Staff 1

How many students applied under Musical Aptitude tests for Secondary Transfer 2025?

Only applicants who sat both parts of the music test, the aural test and the performance assessment, can be considered under this criterion. All applicants who scored 45 or more in the aural test were invited to the performance assessment.  60 applicants were considered under the Musical Aptitude Criterion. Scores from the assessment ranged from 45 (highest) down to 19 (lowest). 18 places were awarded under this criterion.

The lowest assessment score allocated a place on 1st March 2025 is 19.

Where applicants have identical scores, the place is allocated to the applicant who lives closest to the school.

What was the last distance place allocated for Secondary Transfer 2025?

On 1st March 2025:

The furthest distance awarded a place was 1857.17  metres using straight line distance.

How is distance measured from an applicant’s home to the school?

The distance is measured from the address point of the permanent site of the school to an applicant’s home address using a straight-line distance measurement provided by AddressBase Premium.

Hertfordshire County Council’s ‘straight line’ distance measurement system is used for all home to school distance measurements. Distances are measured using a computerised mapping system to two decimal places. The measurement is taken from the AddressBase Premium address point of your child’s house to the address point of the school. AddressBase Premium data is a nationally recognised method of identifying the location of schools and individual residences.

Does the school operate a continuing interest list during the Secondary Transfer process?

Following national allocation day, all applicants will automatically be rolled onto the continuing interest list for a school they put as a higher preference on their Local Authority application than the school they have been allocated.

Places that are rejected will be reallocated during w/c 17 March 2025. The County Council will inform you if your child’s school allocation has altered by 28th March 2025.

If you do not want your child’s name to remain on the continuing interest list, please inform the school and the County Council in writing.

Applicants will not remain on the continuing interest list for Croxley Danes School if they have been allocated a school they ranked higher on their County Council Application form. The school will presume that the applicant’s preference has been met.

How often will the continuing interest list be updated during the Secondary Transfer process?

The continuing interest list will be updated throughout the secondary transfer process every time a vacancy occurs and is filled.  It will not be possible to notify you every time a change is made.

Is there more than one Continuing Interest List and why?

At secondary transfer, the school operates two continuing interest lists (Distance, Musical Aptitude).  You will be on the continuing interest lists for each of the criteria under which your application is being considered.

How do I find out my child’s position on the continuing interest list during the Secondary Transfer process?

Following allocation day, you can email the school to find out your child’s position on the continuing interest list for each of the criteria under which your application is being considered. Email: admissions@croxleydanes.herts.sch.uk.

What happens if a vacancy occurs during the Secondary Transfer Process?

If a vacancy occurs from within the following groups: Children with an Educational Health and Care Plan; Criterion 1 (Looked After Children); Criterion 2 (Siblings); Criterion 3 (Children of Staff); Criterion 5 (Distance) then the place will be offered in accordance with the school’s oversubscription criterion.

If a vacancy occurs from Criterion 4 (Musical Aptitude) then the place will be offered to the applicant with the highest score for Musical Aptitude on the continuing interest list.

This arrangement will continue until 31st December 2025.

What if I didn’t select Croxley Danes School as one of my initial preferences, but following allocation day I now want to be considered for a place?

Change of preference will only be accepted for the second round of continuing interest, after the 31st March 2025.

What is an In-Year Admission?

It is an admission in years 7 -11 at any time other than secondary transfer.  An application form must be completed. Further details can be found on the admissions page of the school’s website: www.croxleydanes.org.uk, admissions, alternatively the admissions information can be obtained directly from the school.

What is a late application?

This is an application that is made after the closing date for admission which was 31st October 2024.

How are late applicants dealt with?

The closing date for applications is published by the County Council, and also by the School on the Supplementary Information Form (the school’s application form).   Applicants who complete a Secondary Application Form by the deadline will be deemed on-time applicants.

Applications received by the County Council and the School after the closing date for applications but before the allocation date in March will be considered as ‘late applications’.  These ‘late applications’ will be considered after the initial allocation date in March and at the second reallocation of the Continuing Interest list.  It will not be possible for late applicants to sit the musical aptitude test.
