19th OctoberThe Economist’s Executive Editor Daniel Franklin Visits Croxley Danes
Today, we had the privilege of welcoming Daniel Franklin, Executive Editor and Senior Editor (Britain) of The Economist, to Croxley Danes School. Daniel delivered a fascinating talk to our Sixth Formers, offering a window into his distinguished career, key insights on how to stand out as a journalist, and the history of the renowned publication.
His session was both compelling and insightful, giving students a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of The Economist and how its business model has adapted to modern times. Reflecting on the past 43 years at The Economist, Daniel shared memorable career highlights and encouraged students to stand out from the crowd by cultivating curiosity—one of our key character habits at Croxley Danes.
The talk culminated in a Q&A, where students posed thoughtful questions that sparked rich discussion on publication bias, global affairs, and Daniel’s time reporting on the fall of communism in the late 1980s.
We are enormously grateful to Daniel Franklin for taking the time to visit Croxley Danes and share his rich experience with us, as well as to Speakers for Schools for making this inspiring event possible. Opportunities like this give our students invaluable career insights as they prepare for higher education and beyond.
