National Careers Week 2021
National Careers Week took place at the start of this month and as with most things, many of the events held were virtual. To support our school community, parents and students of Croxley Danes School were invited to a free online Careers Day hosted by GT Scholars. The Careers Day was open to all parents and children aged 11-18. Students could choose to participate in a variety of different sessions on offer. The day was designed to give those attending an opportunity to meet professionals from a range of companies such as PWC, Goldman Sachs, E-ON, and Atkins Global. There was also a live Q & A session with a panel of speakers from each session.
We also encouraged our students to participate in Hertfordshire’s first ever virtual careers day run by Generation Watford. This event, organised by Watford Chamber of Commerce and Watford Borough Council, was an excellent opportunity for students in Year 10 to engage with local world-class employers.
Our Faculties participated and shared interesting ideas throughout the week to enhance our students’ careers experience. Our Humanities Faculty linked careers to Milton Keynes as a case study, exploring reasons behind the population growth, with job opportunities being a key factor. The PE Faculty encouraged women’s roles in the world of professional football and the Art Faculty showcased some fabulous set designs created by our students looking at roles in Theatre set design. Please see the gallery below for some examples of the work they produced.
Miss Wilding, Assistant Headteacher and Careers Lead, commented “The feedback from our students has been extremely positive and something we wish to build upon next year. We were really pleased with how our students fully engaged with the different resources and events which were available to them.”
