Remembrance 2017

Today, students from both Croxley Danes and St Clement Danes took part in Remembrance services. St Clement Danes traditionally holds two services and, at the senior service, guests who were members of the school's population during the war are invited to share in the event. A wreath is then laid by the school's Head Boy and Girl at the memorial plaque commemorating staff and students from the school who lost their lives and the school archivist puts on a display in the Learning Resources Centre.

Our students, having put on their own remembrance themed assembly earlier in the week, attended the student-led junior service for both schools. After a beautiful a cappella rendition of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah by older students from St Clement Danes, girls from Key Stage 3 delivered a thoughtful presentation about the role of women in war. Guest speakers, Band Colour Sergeant Sarah Hope and A B Kristie Murphy, both from Northwood, then spoke about their time serving in the British forces. After 2 minutes' silence, Sixth Form student Theo Edwards played a moving and expertly phrased Last Post. The audience then watched a video of the song “Flesh and Blood” which was written and performed by injured service men and women at the opening ceremony of the Invictus Games in 2016.
