Remembrance Service 2018

Today, Croxley Danes hosted its first Remembrance Assembly at the school. To start the event, the choir sang a beautiful rendition of 'White Cliffs of Dover' which you can view below. Mr Thompson then led an assembly which gave a brief history of the First World War for the students - none of whom have yet studied the period in school - before going on to talk about the symbolism of the poppy. Mrs Wickenden then explored the significance of Laurence Binyon's poem 'For the Fallen' with the students before Mr Thompson continued by focusing on Croxley Green's role in the war. Students Cameron, Grace and Yousuf read extracts from letters between a Croxley Green resident, Edgar Toms, and his parents and the assembly ended with a stunning performance of the Last Post by Katie and Robbie which heralded the start of two minutes' silence.
