Intermediate Maths Challenge
Last week seventy Year 9 students from Croxley Danes School participated in the annual UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge. The Intermediate Mathematical Challenge is a 60-minute, multiple-choice competition aimed at students across the UK.
It encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems.
The problems on the Intermediate Mathematical Challenge are designed to make students think. Most are accessible, yet still challenge those with more experience. We were delighted with the number of students who took part, showing their focus and determination during the one hour exam.
Mrs Folgate, Numeracy coordinator, stated “The Intermediate Maths Challenge is for students from years 9 to 11. The students are not expected to be able to answer all of the questions and a certain amount of strategy is involved. All of the students approached the challenge positively and we are very proud of their efforts."
We anticipate the results in a few weeks, where the top 40% of participant will receive a gold, silver or bronze certificate and approximately 1500 of the highest performers in the country will go on to sit further rounds.
