New Learning Resource Centre at Croxley Danes School by Bibibella M. 9G
Last week saw the installation of the highly anticipated library with the help of Mrs Rovira our new librarian. Shelves have been built and are waiting to be filled with books full of enticing stories of every genre. It is already looking fabulous making full use of the well-lit, open plan space in the centre of the first floor.
Reading is large part of the ethos at Croxley Danes School, students are encouraged to read every day in form times and for ten minutes before their English lessons. This not only improves their literacy skills but also their everyday life, in improving memory, encouraging empathy and creating positivity. Not to mention the sheer joy of reading and being transported to a different world.
This library will act as a base for this, providing students with hundreds of books and a sanctuary of learning. The Library Reading Champions have also been appointed to aid Mrs Rovira in the library. These students will not only support the library once a week in lunchtime but also support their tutor by keeping track of form reading and support book related and author events. Students had the following to say,
“It will give us a great chance to explore new books that we might not have had the opportunity to read before”
“The library provides a quick and easy way to be introduced to new books and genres and it will help us with future studying”.
We are all really looking forward to seeing more progress to our school, inside and out!
